6 tips for designing your own interior
Rushing the furnishing of a new or old home does not always pay off. Housing costs keep rising, so we understand that you count every crown. So how do you design an interior sensibly without spending too much?
1. Draw up a floor plan
Take a clean sheet of paper and think about what will go in each room. It may sound simple, but unless you own a really large flat or house, some rooms will serve not only as living rooms but also as bedrooms or studies.
If plain paper does not suit you, you can also try various apps. Designing an interior with a handy app may even become your hobby. And do not worry if your English is not perfect, give them a try anyway. Note that some features may be paid!
Planner 5D
It is a freely available home design tool. It lets you adjust floors, walls, materials and colours. Of course, you can also use furniture and accessories. The advantage is that you can switch to 3D and adjust windows and doors in various ways.
HomeByMe
One of the most popular home design programs. What is more, it is free, including its features. As with Planner, you can switch the floor plan from 2D to 3D here and adjust every little detail from a realistic perspective.
Floorplaner
You can decorate your interior in both 2D and 3D, and you do it online without having to download any software. Once you finish the floor plan of your house or flat, you can of course switch to 3D and furnish the rooms with furniture and accessories.
Magicplan
This app is ideal: it can measure your flat using a mobile device, so you do not have to run around with a tape measure and re-measure everything. It is therefore a great tool for the initial survey and for creating a basic design.
2. Colours
Colours have a truly major effect on your state of mind and overall well-being. Remember that dark shades of any colour make a space feel narrower, so try to avoid them. If you like wallpaper, definitely do not use patterns with large pictures, shapes and the like. Even if they look fabulous online, in a small room the effect is rather the opposite and over time you will feel cramped. Light colours are ideal, and the lighter the better, with wallpaper patterns featuring smaller shapes or flowers.
3. The right furniture layout
Think about how your furniture should fit together, which way each cupboard opens and whether your large table, sofa and wall unit are in the right proportion. Always furnish with the space in mind. Working with the room is a key task that will take you a lot of time. If you fill the space with too much furniture, your interior will lose its airiness and feel oppressive. So here too, less is more. Every free metre will then make relaxing more pleasant and, above all, make cleaning easier.
4. Electronics
The whole flat also needs to be equipped with electronics. Try not to buy anything you will not use. Also forget about various kitchen robots, which mostly just take up space. Besides, you will only use them occasionally. With a television, for example, bear in mind that it is not very suitable for the bedroom: it will disturb you and reduce the quality of your sleep. Place it opposite the sofa, ideally at eye level. Definitely do not put it facing a window, as light will reflect off it.
5. Go carefully with your budget
Furnishing a flat is a fairly expensive affair. We cannot always afford to go for the ideal. But definitely do not skimp on the kitchen. Delivery times for made-to-measure kitchen units are not exactly short, but everything can be arranged. Be careful when buying a sofa too: if you have small children, it is not really worth investing in a large one. Instead of a painting, consider decorating your flat with botanical watercolour prints.
6. A personal style
We all like something different. To feel good, remember to create a room that reflects your style. You should feel relaxed and comfortable at home, not as if you were a guest.
