A gable roof will make your home a modern and popular place. It is the most common type of roof in the Czech Republic, so if you have chosen one, you have definitely made a winning choice. It is very popular on both detached family houses and terraced housing. If you are planning to repair or modernise a log cabin or a country cottage, you will be happy with it there too.

Roof structure

Roofs can generally be divided according to several criteria, which then affect the overall shape of the building, how quickly rainwater drains away and the purchase price. Before you start on this kind of investment, be sure to visit a specialist who can help you choose the right option. The roof structure closes off the top of the house and therefore protects the whole building from the outdoor climate. Rainwater, snow and wind can all cause trouble.

A gable roof is no problem

It is made up of two sections that cover the whole house. It is bounded by two gables and a pair of eaves. Where the two sections meet, they form a line called the ridge.

You will see gable roofs above all in the Krkonoše Mountains.

As we have already mentioned, it is the most common way to finish the top of a house in the Czech Republic. You will find them in the Krkonoše Mountains, for example, where the local cottages have gable roofs. The optimal pitch of a gable roof, depending on the type of roof covering used, is 35° to 45°. A building like this is ideal for trying out a glamour style.

Gable: the vertical surface that closes off the roof area.

Hip: the sloping roof plane that closes off the roof area.
