They can also look seriously stylish, giving your garden real flair as well as practical value. You can also take a look at our article on natural fences, which will look great next to a raised bed.
A raised bed made from pallets will give your garden real flair and practical value.

A raised bed is the only right choice
A raised bed like this is assembled from wooden frames and filled with vegetables. What could be difficult about that? But raised beds also have their advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages
- If your soil is less fertile, these beds are an excellent place to grow vegetables
- You do not have to worry about weeds
- Pests such as slugs will also find it hard to get in
- You can plant early after winter, because the soil is warmer
- You spare your back
- It is a stylish, eye-catching feature
Disadvantages
- You have to renovate the bed once a year
- Regular watering
You can easily find the cheapest planed boards, construction boards or even larch boards in brick-and-mortar shops.

A raised bed made from pallets
You can also make beds from pallets, which can even be used whole. In this case, however, you need to make sure the soil does not fall out through the gaps. Do your best to prevent this, for example by using dimpled membrane.
Alternatively, you can take the pallets apart and fill the gaps with wooden boards. The construction process is then the same as for a raised bed made from boards. You can easily find the cheapest planed boards, construction boards or even larch boards in brick-and-mortar shops.
Do not forget proper wood treatment for this type of bed either. A wooden raised bed is, of course, exposed to a lot of wear, so it is important to look after it properly. Choose an exterior coating and extend the life of your wooden board bed. Natural wood stains with UV protection are a good choice.
It is also worth adding a wood preservative to protect the boards from rot and wood-boring insects. If you do not want to keep the natural shade, you can choose one of the opaque paints.
The raised bed and its surroundings
Build paths between the beds, but do not neglect them. Do not let a neglected path spoil the overall look of your garden. Cover it with gravel or bark, or let it grow over with lovely green grass and look after it well, so that everything is exactly as it should be!
