How to create a bright interior
Sun-drenched: that is what interiors in the Italian style bring to mind. It is not just the climate but also the choice of colours in each room that explains why Italians favour plenty of light. So don’t be afraid to choose colours such as white, light shades and cream for your home. You can also go for pastel or even rich colours. You will be amazed by dark blue or brick red. Among the lighter tones, yellow and grey work well.
Hang only light net curtains or minimalist blinds at the windows. Nothing should stop natural light from reaching your room. If you do this, the way to a cosy and welcoming home is open. You will also truly feel at home.
Extravagance above all
Combining old and new creates a very interesting contrast in an interior. Believe it or not, in Italy you will come across flats dominated by historic features combined with modern style. This also means that Italian style finds room for art and luxury as well as Italy’s modest past. Even so, the home should feel practical and functional, even if it is unconventional.
Choosing furniture
Do you like clean lines? Then Italian style is exactly right for you. Choose furniture without ornamentation, but with bold materials or unusual shapes. You will see that your interior will still feel harmonious. Focus on the sofa set, bed or desk, which can look original, grand and luxurious. Then complete the rest of the interior with ordinary or simpler pieces that will only highlight the dominant ones.
Because Italians are very passionate, don’t be afraid to furnish your Italian-Czech home colourfully. Still, follow your own personality and taste.
Natural materials are important
Natural materials bring homely warmth and a pleasant atmosphere into a space. Try wood, stone, leather or various woven fabrics. The luxury mentioned earlier comes from velvet, cotton, satin, brocade or damask, which are used to upholster chairs or decorate cushions.
With Italian style, don’t be afraid to buy various pieces of furniture, for example in antique shops.
What about the floor?
As the hot weather in Italy can sometimes be unbearable, choose tiles for your interior to cover walls or floors. You will especially appreciate how easy they are to maintain, so use them in the hallway, kitchen, bathroom or toilet. Try covering one wall in the living room with them, for example. They look stunning in ivory to beige shades with a subtle relief. Nor should we forget mosaic.
Italian-style decorations
Choose plenty of textile accessories. They will make your room pleasant and cosy. Various artistic and designer pictures, sculptures or vases are welcome, especially if they are modern. Also choose decorations with ornaments made from stones and shells that you brought back from holiday. Add good-quality or large wine glasses.
Nor should we forget plants, which look good in any interior. Whether you buy a genuine olive tree is entirely up to you. Still, your kitchen should not be without herbs and the scent of lemons. Lavender is welcome too.
So when you start to feel the physical symptoms of stress, take a trip to sunny Italy. Visit Tuscan gardens and while you are there, look out for interesting pieces for your Italian-Czech interior.
